Book Review

Welcome to our Women's book review. At West Highland, our library is full of great books and new best sellers. Someone once said, "the two most influential things over the course of a person's life will be the friends they keep and the books they read!   So choose wisely and enjoy - hopefully these review will assist you!

Review:

Proverbs 23:7 tells us, "For a person thinks in his/her heart - so he is"  In other words, your thoughts and attitudes determine your actions, most of the time.  Again and again in the scriptures it is pointed out that most of our battles are not against people or circumstances (even though we may feel like it is).  They are against spiritual forces and the most pivotal battlefield begins in the mind.  What you allow yourself to think and believe about situations will eventually come out in words, attitudes or actions, not maybe, it will.   Romans 12:2 and others verses like it urge us to take this truth very, very seriously.  We are to learn how to take every thought captive, learn to exchange truth in place of lies and renew our minds constantly (daily) in order to avoid the normal patterns of the world around us.

This book is a step by step breakdown of how our thinking affects us.  How many of us have come to have wrong thinking over our lifetimes, and how that translates into our perceptions of situations & people around us.  It will help to identify & break down strongholds in our thought patterns and encourage us on how urgent it is to deal with these things honestly.  The book has been made into a 6-CD set, so you can listen to it over & over at home or in your car, there is a personal workbook that can assist you in dealing with the issues discussed.  There is also a version for teens and one for children that I would highly recommend.  These are very important subjects to deal with at early ages before strongholds (wrong thought patterns) take a firm hold.

I appreciate the author's constant reminders that, "greater is He that is in us", and "He will bring the work that He starts in us to completion".  She constantly encourages us to stand firm against receiving a spirit of condemnation when we fail in this process of transformation.  When Satan knows we are partnering with God's word & Holy Spirit to change our thinking, He resorts to condemnation when we fail, to discourage us from continuing to try.  Even hope is a battle that is won or lost in the mind & thoughts.. before it can help us in how we persevere and live.  Whether you can already tell that you would have a lot to gain from reading this book or you think you don't. I would strongly encourage everyone to read it!  Almost every other thing that flows out of our Christian experience, will flow out of our mind & heart and what we allow to take root there.
